(KRON) -- An already-convicted murderer has been found guilty of killing two more women in Fremont in 1986, the Alameda County Sheriff's Office announced. David Misch, 63, was found guilty of killing Michelle Xavier, 18, and Jennifer Duey, 20. The bodies of both young women were found naked in a remote area of Fremont on Feb. 2, 1986. Evidence at trial showed that Misch's DNA was found under Duey's nails. To explain the DNA, Misch said in 2003 that he saw the young women being kidnapped at gunpoint and tried to save them. Father accused of beheading son in Sacramento County A partial license plate associated with Misch was written on one of the victims' hands. This was also used as evidence. "This conviction is a testament to this office’s commitment to seeking justice for victims and their families, even if it takes decades. I only wish we could have delivered justice sooner for these two families," said Chief Assistant District Attorney Royl Roberts. A motorcyclist found Duey and Xavier's bodies along the side of Mill Creek Road, a little more than a mile east of Mission Boulevard. Police said they had been shot and stabbed hours before they were found. The young women had attended a birthday dinner earlier that evening and were last seen alive together at a convenience store in the area. The case stayed cold for decades, but in 2016 Cold Case Detective Jacob Blass began to re-examine case files and identified Misch as the suspect. Misch lived in the Fremont area at the time and was known to burglarize businesses and use drugs, police said in 2018. Misch is currently serving a life sentence for a separate murder he committed in Dec. 1989. He is also linked to the disappearance of Michaela Garecht, who was kidnapped from a Hayward parking lot in 1988 at 9 years old.
