RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- A Henrico County teacher’s life was turned upside down in just a matter of minutes after a fire destroyed her apartment on Saturday. "Literally, in a matter of a few hours, I went from having everything to pretty much a duffel bag with the stuff I was able to get that next day," said Diamond Robinson, a middle school teacher in Henrico. Robinson was settling into her new apartment at The Crossings at Bramblewood in Richmond just two weeks before the disaster struck. "I was taking a nap around 6 or 7 [p.m.] when I heard people outside yelling, 'Get out!' -- and then I smelled smoke," Robinson said. "I looked outside and saw flames. I grabbed my purse and ran as fast as I could." It began in an apartment on the floor above Robinson's, but officials have not said exactly how it started yet. The department previously told 8News that the person who lived in that apartment was severely injured in the fire. Dec. 14 apartment fire in Richmond. (Photo provided to 8News.) Although Robinson is thankful that she was not also hurt, she is now working to rebuild -- while also expecting a baby soon. "It was supposed to be the start of a new chapter," Robinson said. "I had just moved out of a one-bedroom into this two-bedroom, getting ready for my baby. But, now, I’ve lost everything." She also mourns the sentimental losses -- the degrees, diplomas and certificates she had worked so hard for. "I had just started getting stuff for my baby," Robinson said, telling 8News that it was all lost. Damage following a Dec. 14 apartment fire in Richmond. (Photo provided to 8News.) She came back days after the fire to collect her stuff and was given devastating news. "The fire department said the building was unsafe and everything in it was unsalvageable," she said. ‘It’s not going to stop’: Dinwiddie mechanic is nowhere to be found as man says he did not fix his car properly 8News reached out for additional information from fire officials and hasn't heard back yet as of the time of reporting.
