ST. TAMMANY PARISH, La. (WGNO) — A woman from Bush, La. was found guilty on Friday in a case involving the 2022 overdose death of a 15-year-old Covington girl. Two dead following separate St. James, Lafourche crashes According to the 22nd Judicial District Attorney's Office, on the evening of July 12, 2022, emergency services and St. Tammany Parish deputies were called to 43-year-old Felisia Grantham's home in Bush, where the 15-year-old girl was found dead in a bedroom with drugs and drug paraphernalia present. Once at the house, the girl began throwing up and went into one of the bedrooms where she was later found to not be breathing. An analysis of the drugs found in the bedroom found that they contained fentanyl, and an autopsy of the victim found that, in her system, she had 13 times the amount of fentanyl required to kill a person. On Grantham's cellphone, investigators say they found messages initiated by her, to the victim, saying that the defendant would get fentanyl for the victim if she would share it. Once confronted with this information in an interview, officials say Grantham admitted to obtaining the fentanyl that caused the teen's death. Vacherie man arrested following drug bust The teen was reportedly holding a job at a local fast-food restaurant while in the foster care system due to abuse suffered at the hands of a family acquaintance. As a result of the abuse, officials say she struggled with severe depression and turned to drug use in response. Grantham, being unemployed, reportedly exploited the victim into paying for the fentanyl in exchange for the defendant obtaining it. After a jury deliberated for just over an hour, Grantham was found guilty of second-degree murder and distribution of a narcotic drug to a person under age 18. Sentencing is set for Feb. 24, 2025, and second-degree murder carries a mandatory sentence of life in prison.
