GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — After a perfect season, the Grimsley Whirlies are state champions.
According to MaxPreps, quarterback Faizon Brandon led the team to a 35-23 win over Rolesville on Friday at Kenan Memorial Stadium in Chapel Hill.
Brandon, a five-star recruit currently committed to the University of Tennesee, is not only one of the best players in the state. 247Sports ranks Brandon as the top player in the nation for the class of 2026.
Before the championship game, Brandon completed a staggering 77% of his passes for 2,632 yards, 33 touchdowns and only one interception, according to MaxPreps.
Grimsley also arguably had just as big of a star on the other side of the ball as well in defensive lineman Bryce Davis.
Davis, a senior, is ranked by 247Sports as the third-best player in the state of North Carolina for the Class of 2025 and is a four-star recruit currently committed to Duke University.
Before Friday's game, Davis recorded 78 tackles, 24 tackles for loss, 17 sacks and 30 quarterback hurries, according to MaxPreps.
The Whirlie offense also boasted a variety of weapons including junior tight end DJ Howerton, a three-star recruit in the Class of 2026 and the 26th-best player in the state of North Carolina, according to 247Sports.
The Whirlies started the championship with a 14-0 lead that never faltered.
