HIGH POINT, N.C. (WGHP) — Authorities have identified the man who was fatally shot by police after allegedly wielding a knife and acting 'erratically' at a McDonald's near the former Oak Hollow Mall.
The man was identified as Najeem A. Jordan, 50, of High Point.
According to Chief Curtis Cheeks, they received a call about a suicidal subject inside the McDonald’s. Workers said that a man was inside the restaurant acting erratic and cutting himself with a razorblade. While officers were en route, they were informed the man now had a knife inside the restaurant.
When officers arrived, they attempted to speak with the subject, according to the chief, however, two officers fired at Jordan.
It was previously reported that he was taken to the hospital with “penetrating trauma” and that person’s injuries were life-threatening.
Cheeks said that while they are exploring alternative response methods for calls pertaining to mental health, because this subject was armed it would still prompt a police response.
The officers are on administrative duty and the SBI is investigating. No one else was hurt during this incident.
