BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — A man accused of drugging and raping a woman at a Baton Rouge hotel has been arrested.
Max Dobbs, 26, of New Orleans, was charged with three counts of third-degree rape, 31 counts of simple battery and one count of video voyeurism, according to an affidavit from the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office.
The sheriff's office said the victim reported that the assault happened on Aug. 30 at a hotel on Reiger Road. The victim said she met Dobbs, who called himself Jude, on a dating site in July. She agreed to meet him at the hotel for dinner and a movie.
Dobbs went to pick up food from a Mexican restaurant, and the victim noticed a blue tint in her Sprite. Dobbs told her it was the ice. The victim drank the Sprite and fell asleep on the bed.
According to the affidavit, the victim woke up naked with Dobbs on top of her. She said she felt frozen and unable to move before she passed out again. After some time, she managed to get up, put on her clothes, leave the hotel, and call a friend to pick her up. She went to the hospital for a sexual assault exam.
After leaving the hospital, the victim searched for him online. She found a booking photo of him from Florida. Video footage from the hotel supported her account of the events, EBRSO said.
During an interview, Dobbs told deputies that he had sex with the victim.
"The accused stated the victim woke up the following morning and suggested he drugged her and had sex with her without her consent. The accused offered to take her to a local hospital for a toxicology screen, however, she refused and left the hotel," the affidavit said.
In November, the victim called EBRSO and said an ex-girlfriend of Dobbs contacted her. The affidavit said the ex-girlfriend found videos and photos on Dobbs' phone. They showed the victim unconscious as Dobbs assaulted her, the affidavit said.
EBRSO said the ex-girlfriend found videos of herself while unconscious. She also found text messages with an overseas company Dobbs used "to obtain a sleep aid which produces 'lifeless' sleep and is not visible on a toxicology screen."

The sheriff's office said the videos identified Dobbs and the victim. The metadata matched the date of the reported assault. The ex-girlfriend also found other evidence of women who appeared unconscious, EBRSO said.
Authorities arrested Dobbs on Dec. 19 and booked him into the parish prison.
