ST. JAMES PARISH, La. (WGNO) — Two people, a driver and a passenger, are dead following separate crashes that happened in St. James and Lafourche parishes.
According to the Louisiana State Police, troopers with Troop C started investigating the St. James Parish crash, which happened on Louisiana Highway 18, west of Louisiana Highway 3219, just before 10 a.m. on Dec. 5.
The initial investigation shows that a 2007 Nissan Altima, driven by 20-year-old Shonta'jia Gibson, of Prairieville, was heading east on LA Highway 18 when the vehicle crossed the center line and hit a 2020 Toyota Camry head-on.

Officials say the second crash, which happened on Louisiana Highway 20 near Perez Lane in Lafourche Parish, was reported just before 12 p.m. on Dec. 17.
The initial investigation shows that a 2017 Kia Sorento was heading south on LA Highway 20 when another vehicle, which was traveling north, was trying to pass other vehicles in a no passing zone.

After the vehicle had passed the others in the northbound lane, the vehicles it had passed started to hit their brakes, causing a 2017 Kia Cadenza to swerve into the southbound lane to avoid the braking vehicles, and in the process, hit the Sorento head-on.
The drivers of the Cadenza and Sorento, along with the front passenger of the Sorento, identified as 78-year-old Herman Hall, of Thibodaux, were properly restrained and moderately injured. They were all taken to an out-of-area hospital where Hall was later reported to have died.
Both crashes remain under investigation.
