Yankees send Jose Trevino to Reds for Fernando Cruz, Alex Jackson
Dec 20, 2024
Catcher Jose Trevino is on his way to the Cincinnati Reds.
In exchange for the 32-year-old, the Yankees received right-handed pitcher Fernando Cruz and catcher Alex Jackson, the team announced Friday.
The catcher swap slots Jackson in a backup role behind starter Austin Wells, who appeared in 115 game for the Yankees in 2024. Jackson appeared in 58 games with the Tampa Bay Rays in 2024, slashing .122/.201/.237 with three homers and 12 RBI. He is entering his sixth season in the majors after spending time with the Atlanta Braves, Miami Marlins, Milwaukee Brewers and Rays.
The Yankees land Cruz after the reliever finished 2024 with a 3-8 record and a 4.86 ERA in 69 games (three starts). He owns a career 4.52 ERA in 147.1 innings pitched with the Reds.
This is Trevino’s second time getting dealt in his career. He arrived in the Bronx after the Texas Rangers shipped him back in 2022. He played 243 games with the Yankees, slashing .230/.279/.361 with 23 home runs and 86 RBI. Upon arrival in the Bronx, the catcher displayed elite framing behind the plate. His fielding at the position earned him a Gold Glove with the Yankees in 2022.
