Former Hagerstown City Councilman Matt Schindler is the name the county Democratic Central Committee is sending to Gov. Wes Moore's desk for appointment.
"I'm absolutely honored," Schindler said. "I just hope that I can live up to the trust that the committee has put in me."
The committee choice was unanimous, from a field that included another former member of the council, a member of the Washington County school board, a teacher and a community organizer.
"We had a lot of really good candidates come forward," Angela Batista, chair of the Washington County Democratic Central Committee, said. "It's almost a good problem to have."
