Maryland State Police rescue injured owl hit by car in Charles County

LA PLATA, Md. (DC News Now) -- Maryland State Police (MSP) said one of its lieutenants rescued an injured barred owl that had been hit by a car.
Earlier this month, Lt. West stumbled upon the injured owl on the road. MSP said he quickly activated his emergency equipment and moved the owl from the road and out of harm's way.

Before Maryland Resources Police responded to the incident, MSP said the owl was perching on Lt. West's arm.

"We're taking it as a sign of appreciation for his kindness!" MSP stated in an X post.
The owl was safely taken to the Owl Moon Raptor Center where it received "exemplary care."

MSP said the owl will be released back into the wild in a few more weeks.
