Takoma Park completes final fall leaf collection day; how to dispose of yard waste yearround
Dec 20, 2024
TAKOMA PARK, Md. (DC News Now) -- Takoma Park held its last fall leaf collection day on Friday -- but if you still have yard waste, there are other opportunities to dispose of it.
"Thank you to our team of Leaf Collectors for their hard work these past few weeks! And thanks to all those who grabbed yard signs and took advantage of the Leaf-Saver Program to return nutrients to their gardens and lawns!" the city said in a post published Friday.
Each week on Monday, the City of Takoma Park conducts yard waste collection for leaves, grass, branches and brush.
Yard waste will be paused if a holiday falls on a Monday.
What can be recycled over the holidays?
Any leaves or other loose material must be in paper bags, trash cans or a stiff-sided container. Any branches also need to be less than four feet long and less than three inches in diameter. They must be tied into small bundles or stacked in a trash can.
Christmas Trees (with tinsel, ornaments and stands removed) can also be collected on Mondays.
Takoma Park reminded residents that plastic bags should not be used for yard waste disposal.
