In what was known then as the “u-drove humanitarian bowl,” a Pat Hill-led Fresno State team jumped out to a hot start forcing a turnover on downs. Then converting a Ryan Colburn to Jamel Hamler touchdown pass to begin the game.
Quickly momentum shifted Niu’s way afterward as the Huskies rattled off 40 points and 503 total yards of offense over the next three and a half quarters.
Leaving Fresno State with a 40-to-17 loss, dropping their record that season to 8-and-5.
“This isn't the way we wanted to finish it obviously, but I've got a lot of respect for the team we played tonight. they played at a high level and it's one of the best teams they've ever had. Eleven wins, they played hard tonight," Hill said.
A year later, after the 2011 season, Bulldog head coach Pat Hill would be let go, finishing with over 110 wins, and a 4-and-7 bowl game record.
