(KRON) -- A small plane made an emergency landing Friday morning at an old, abandoned runway at the decommissioned Alameda Naval Air Station, KRON4.com has confirmed. According to the Alameda Fire Department, officials were notified of an aircraft experiencing mechanical issues and losing altitude at 10:26 a.m. The aircraft, which the FAA said was a single-engine Cessna C152, had two people on board. An FAA spokesperson said it landed safely at the decommissioned air station at around 10:35 a.m. The pilot reported an engine issue, according to officials. The Cessna was headed to Palo Alto Airport at the time of the incident. The plane was able to land safely with no injuries to those on board or anyone on the ground. No hazmat issues were reported as a result of the landing, fire officials said. Bay Area city offering $100K signing bonus for new police officers who meet certain criteria The Alameda Fire Department dispatched its fireboat to the scene and requested assistance from the United States Coast Guard helicopter, which located the plane. East Bay Regional Parks is now handling the incident, which is in their jurisdiction. Seventeen Alameda FD personnel were dispatched to the scene. The aircraft remains at the location of the landing, according to officials. Alameda NAS was decommissioned in 1997. Since then, it has been developed for mixed use by the city with residential and business properties. The old runways are frequently used recreationally by cyclists, joggers, and people walking their dogs. The FAA said it is investigating.
