Cold air is in control for most of Kansas today.  Extreme Southwest Kansas is not as impacted by the Arctic blast as other parts of the state.   High pressure to our north is steering the cold our direction.  This will be a glancing blow with temperatures recovering this weekend.   Overnight with plentiful stars and a lighter wind, temps will fall to the teens and 20s.   There will still be remnants of the cold from Central into Eastern Kansas Saturday afternoon with highs mostly in the 40s.  Western counties will warm into the 50s with the mildest along the Colorado state line. Elkhart should be able to warm into the lower 60s again.   Temps warm further on Sunday with many across the west warming to the 60s with the rest in the 50s.   A system tracks into the region on Monday.  Clouds will crowd and temps will back off a few degrees while remaining above average.  Late in the day, rain showers are possible especially farther southeast and near the Oklahoma state line.   Remaining rain will linger along the state line to the south into early Tuesday. Any amounts for us will be light and not impact holiday travel.   Christmas Eve will be near to above average for temps with a mix of sun and clouds. Comfortable temps expected for Christmas.   A stronger storm system arrives late on Christmas into next Thursday. Rain showers may blossom as early as Wednesday evening in the west before the system ramps up.  Rain will be favored due to warmer temperatures profiles in the atmosphere, although there may be a brief switch to snow in the west before turning back to all rain Thursday morning.   KSN Storm Track 3 Forecast from Chief Meteorologist Lisa Teachman:Wichita:Tonight: Mostly clear.
