Dec 20, 2024
WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) -- A man has been sentenced in connection to the July 2023 shooting at the former City Nightz club in Old Town.
Jaylen Thomas, 25, pleaded guilty in September to two counts of aggravated battery and one count of aggravated assault. He was one of three men charged in connection to the shooting.
He was sentenced Friday to 82 months (6.8 years) in prison with 36 months of post-release supervision. He must also provide a restitution of $8,499.89 to one of the shooting victims and $1,000 to City Nightz.
His co-defendant, Ameir King-Ingram, was sentenced to 53 months (4.4 years) in prison in June.
Nine people were shot, and two people were trampled as people ran during the shooting. City Nightz closed the following month.

A third defendant, John Houze, is scheduled for a jury trial on Jan. 29. Houze case has been delayed four times because of court-appointed counsel. Three times, a court-appointed attorney had to drop the case because they either represented another defendant in the shooting or one of the state's witnesses, creating a conflict of interest.
Court records also show that a fourth attorney had to drop out due to a medical issue.
