Local nonprofits help Topeka wrap up holiday shopping
Dec 20, 2024
TOPEKA (KSNT) - The holidays are near, and so is gift wrapping. Many local organizations are out in the community helping to wrap up your holiday shopping.
Helping Hands Humane Society and the Capper Foundation are offering wrapping services to the community to raise money for the new year.
The Capper Foundation was working in partnership with Kiwanis, who raises money for projects, for themselves and also to be able do great stuff for the community.
"One of the projects we are going to be working on this year is going to be donating Christmas presents to the KDC (Kansas Department of Children), kids who are in the foster care program," Kristin Fischer, HR and Education Coordinator of Capper Foundation, said. "So, half the money that we raise here today will be going to that for next year's Christmas presents. The other half will be going to t-shirts for the club.

Lindsay Hubbard, event coordinator at Helping Hands Humane Society, mentioned all of their proceeds made from gift wrapping will be going directly to the shelter.
"So, it helps with the cost of enrichment of the animals," Hubbard said. "It helps with the cost of medical care for the animals. It helps with the day-to-day cost, cause it cost about 15 dollars a day for each animal in our care. "
Helping Hands will be wrapping at the shelter again tomorrow and Sunday during their open hours: Saturday, Dec. 21, 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 22, 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Small gifts: $2 per gift
Medium to large gifts: $5 per gift
Extra large gifts: $7 per gift
