Dec 20, 2024
LEXINGTON, Mass. (WWLP) - Two-time convicted felon Jose Perez of Lynn was sentenced to 11 years in prison for drug and firearm charges.
Perez, 27, was sentenced in federal court in Boston. The sentencing came after an event in December 2022 in which police officers attempted to stop Perez when he was speeding through Lexington. Lexington police said that Perez was driving over 85 miles per hour on residential streets, crashing into another vehicle and eventually losing control and slamming into a post.

Lexington officers pursued Perez on foot after the car crashed, and a loaded Glock 34X 9mm semi-automatic handgun dropped to the ground as Perez exited his car. The passenger of Perez's vehicle, Henry Del Rio, also fled. Officers caught the two men in a Stop and Shop parking lot and seized $2,000 from Perez's pockets. Upon investigation, Lexington police discovered a bag of cocaine in the crashed vehicle, and a second bag of cocaine as well as 44 small bags of fentanyl on the ground where Del Rio had ran.
At the time of the men's initial arrest, Perez had been on supervised release on two prior federal convictions. In 2017, he was convicted for engaging in dealing firearms without a license, and in 2020 for felon in possession of a firearm and conspiracy to distribute controlled substances. These prior convictions ruled Perez unable to carry a firearm.
In August, Perez was convicted of one count of conspiracy to distribute and to possess with intent to distribute controlled substances and one count of felon in possession of a firearm. Del Rio pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute controlled sentences in May and is scheduled to be sentenced in January.
Perez will spend 142 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release.
