CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - As colder temperatures move in, not only should you prepare yourself by layering up, but you should also prepare your home. There are a lot of tips for how you can not only keep yourself warm in your house during the cold but how you can do it properly for all of the fixtures as well. It is recommended you keep your home heated to a minimum of at least 65 degrees to help prevent any pipes from freezing within your home. Is the winter solstice the shortest day of the year? For those doors and windows, there are products you can buy to ensure to prevent the cold from coming in. Rocky's Ace Hardware Manager Avory Luna said, "You want to make sure you get any bracing on the doors better and any gaps on the bottom of the door. Make sure you put something right underneath whether it is with a dust buster slip-on or whether you want to put a little towel underneath." Luna said heat leaving the house through gaps in doors or windows is one of the reason some residents may see their bills increasing at this time of year. There are also linings you can get for your windows to create a full seal, making sure you are heating your home, not the outdoors.
