HINESVILLE, Ga. (WSAV) - The Liberty County Sheriff's Office (LCSO) has announced the arrest of a deputy jailer following an investigation of mistreatment. LCSO said on Friday that Crystal Russell was issued an arrest warrant for a violation of O.C.G.A. 42-4-5 Cruelty to Inmates. This comes after an investigation of an incident involving mistreatment of an inmate in the Liberty County jail. The deputy jailer was also reportedly found to have "violated numerous Sheriff's Office policies." Russell has been terminated and was immediately placed under arrest. The Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council has been notified and they will conduct an independent investigation.
