Winter break is something many students and families enjoy, but there’s often a lull between hitting the slopes and dinner. That’s where the Park City Film’s Winter Break Film Series comes in.The arthouse nonprofit has partnered with the Park City Library for free screenings of family-friendly films that will start at 4 p.m. on Dec 26, 27 and 30, and Jan 2 and 3 at the Jim Santy Auditorium, said Katharine Wang, Park City Film executive director.“The films are all approachable and appropriate for young film lovers and seasoned oldies like myself,” she said with a laugh. “They all kind of fall under the umbrella of a family film festival that looks at how to bring people together around films that are appropriate for younger audiences. This is where the Winter Break films fit in thematically in our programming.”The films, which will be screened at the Jim Santy Auditorium, are:Greta Gerwig’s “Little Women,” rated PG, Thursday, Dec 26 Kelsey Mann’s Disney and Pixar film “Inside Out 2,” rated PG, Friday, Dec 27 Rob Reiner’s “Princess Bride,” rated PG, Monday, Dec. 30 Joe Johnston’s “Jumanji,” rated PG, Jan. 2 Tim Burton’s “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” rated PG, Friday, Jan. 3Park City Film will screen Rob Reiner’s 1987 swashbuckling romantic comedy “The Princess Bride” on Dec. 30 at the Jim Santy Auditorium. And we try to do a mix of current films and older, classic films, especially if there have been iterations of a film over time.”That’s why Park City Film selected the 2019 version of “Little Women” and the 1995 version of “Jumanji,” according to Wang. The late Robin Williams stars in Joe Johnston’s 1995 film “Jumanji” that will screen Jan. 2 as part of Park City Film’s Winter Break Film Series. So, maybe some people don’t know the story, they know the actors. And that’s the touch point.”Wang wanted to find the first “Jumanji” because she wanted to go back in time.“The sequels are fun, but they are based on video games, so we wanted to show the one with the late Robin Williams because it’s a nostalgic piece,” she said. “And some young people don’t know that there was an original Jumanji board game that this movie is based on.”“Inside Out 2” is an important film this year, Wang said.“Not only was it one of the hits, it’s on the short list for an Academy Award,” she said. “It’s also a great story that thinks about emotions, puberty and how we evolve as humans. It’s also something that gives families a way to talk about these topics.”Wang added “The Princess Bride” and “The Nightmare Before Christmas” to “mix things up.”Park City Film will screen Tim Burton’s “The Nightmare Before Christmas” on Jan. 3. Oh, and the popcorn is also free.”For information about Park City Film and the Winter Break Film Series, visit parkcityfilm.org.The post Park City Film and the Park City Library lines up a Winter Break Series appeared first on Park Record.
