Motorist killed on I94 in Wright County during Thursday snowstorm, State Patrol says

A Monticello, Minn., man was killed late Thursday night in a three-vehicle chain-reaction crash on Interstate 94.
The crash, which occurred during the region’s first major winter storm of the season, happened at about 11 p.m. on eastbound I-94 in Clearwater Township in Wright County, according to a Minnesota State Patrol report.
According to the report, a semi was eastbound on I-94 at mile post 180 when it jackknifed into the center median cables.
A 2023 Honda Ridgeline was eastbound on I-94 when it collided with the trailer of the semi, according to the report. A second semi then collided with the first semi and Honda, then rolled over.
The driver of the Honda, Thomas Victor Pearson, 61, of Monticello, was killed, according to the report. The drivers of the two semi were not injured.
All three drivers were wearing seat belts. The Honda’s airbag deployed.
Road conditions were described as snow- and ice-covered.
Meanwhile, the State Patrol reported 453 crashes statewide Thursday, including the fatal collision. Some 38 others involved injuries. The State Patrol said 281 vehicles slid off roadways, and 28 spun out. More than three dozen semi trucks also jackknifed.
Some 5.5 inches of snow was officially recorded in the Twin Cities. Nearly 9 inches was reported near Faribault, Minn.
