HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Hanover County Public Schools (HCPS) has provided an update on its process to adjust its school boundary lines and alleviate overcrowding in local schools over time. On Wednesday, Dec. 18, HCPS said it has worked closely with a third-party vendor, MGT, to review the capacities of its schools and develop potential boundary adjustments to alleviate overcrowding in schools. The school district shared its new webpage which highlights attendance areas of each HCPS school that are over or under-utilized with current, five-year and 10-year forecasts for each school level. According to the information on the school district's new webpage, in the 2024-2025 year, 109.7% of Cool Springs Elementary School was utilized, which is expected to increase over the next couple of years. For attendance in HCPS' middle schools, 95.5% of Chickahominy Middle School was utilized in the 2024-2025 year. In HCPS' high schools, 93.5% of Atlee High School was utilized for the 2024-2025 year. HCPS said MGT will host three in-person community engagement meetings next month to receive input on the draft boundary options, which are scheduled to be released in January. According to HCPS, the three meetings hosted by MGT are as follows: Monday, Jan. 27 at 7 p.m. at Atlee High School Tuesday, Jan. 28 at 7 p.m. at Patrick Henry High School Wednesday, Jan. 29 at 7 p.m. at Mechanicsville High School Additionally, MGT will make a virtual opportunity available for the public's input for those who are unable to attend a meeting. HCPS said more information on the virtual opportunity will be shared in January.
