PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Gov. Dan McKee said that extra crews have been sent out for the snowfall expected Friday evening.
The Rhode Island Department of Transportation said that roads are expected to “become slushy and snow covered” as the afternoon goes on.
“We began pre-treating roads yesterday and again this morning,” a statement from the department read. “RIDOT trucks have been out treating roads since shortly after noontime, and we have begun calling our private vendors in to assist. Our trucks will remain operating through the afternoon, into the evening and during the day tomorrow as needed.”
The Massachusetts Department of Transportation also said that is has over 3,000 pieces of equipment available statewide for snow and ice response, and nearly 1,480,000 gallons of ice melt.
Drivers should reduce their speed, avoid distraction and provide additional distance between them and the vehicle in front of them, especially for plows and salt trucks.
