PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — State and city leaders were in Providence Friday afternoon for the groundbreaking of the new Harry Kizirian Pre-K-8 School on Camden Avenue. The school will have dedicated Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) rooms, according to the Providence Public School District. MORE: Officials break ground on new Providence middle school "With the ground breaking of Kizirian, we are celebrating yet another major school facility project that will allow more Providence students to learn and succeed in high-quality learning spaces," Rhode Island Education Commissioner Angélica Infante-Green said at the groundbreaking. "Through collaboration among PPSD, RIDE, and the city of Providence, we're creating more 21st century schools that meet the academic and social-emotional needs of students." The project will cost $55.2 million, with $45 million coming from the state. Alongside the STEM rooms, the district said the building will also have modern arts and music facilities, a renovated lobby for dropping off students, outdoor play spaces for the Pre-K and kindergarten students and integration with a nearby recreation center.
