NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) — Police have arrested a suspect in connection with a shooting outside of a New Bedford Taco Bell early Thursday morning.
Pedro Javier Gonzalez Olmo, 31, was taken into custody Thursday evening and charged with assault and battery, as well as discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building and improper storage.
Investigators believe the shooting stemmed from an argument between Olmo and two women inside the Taco Bell off of Coggeshall Street. Police said Olmo assaulted both women before walking out of the restaurant.
The victim, who police said had been waiting in a nearby car, was making his way inside the Taco Bell around 1 a.m. when he ran into Olmo. Police said the two men "exchanged words" before Olmo pulled out a firearm and shot the victim.
The man's injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.
An investigation revealed that Olmo is a licensed gun owner. Police said officers seized his weapons while apprehending him.
