PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — The outdoor ice rink in downtown Providence is set to open on Monday after getting some upgrades. Mayor Brett Smiley's office said the rink underwent a $2.5 million renovation, which included a new cold floor, chiller system and clear dasher boards. "The Providence Ice Rink has long been a cherished destination for families and visitors and with these upgrades, we’re ensuring it remains a vibrant, sustainable part of downtown for years to come," Smiley said. "This investment reflects our commitment to providing a space where the community can come together to enjoy skating, seasonal events and all that Providence has to offer." Funding for those renovations came from the Capital Improvement Plan, ARPA, revenue from the rink and park permits, according to the mayor's office.
