MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A woman is in critical condition and a man injured after their truck was stolen when they pulled over on a South Memphis street because of a medical episode.
Police say a man on the street first offered to help them, then jumped in their truck and drove off, knocking the elderly couple into the street and causing serious injuries.
Surveillance video from a nearby church shows a woman unresponsive on the sidewalk off South Parkway East this past Tuesday. A truck is parked in the street, doors wide open.
You see a man in a red hoodie walk up. The video skips to where the woman's husband was trying to secure the woman in the passenger seat.
While the couple was distracted, the suspect walkd to the other side of the truck and drives away, toward Barton Road. The couple smacked onto the ground, leaving the woman in critical condition.
Police are circulating these pictures hoping to identify the man who drove off.

Dr. Walker Wright, pastor of White Stone Missionary Baptist Church, says he was there during the incident. He says he was shocked after saying he had just left the couple to go inside to call for help for the medical incident.
When he got back, the truck was already gone, and the couple injured.
"I don't think he meant to hurt them, people. I just can't believe he meant to hurt them because if he wanted to hurt them, he would've hurt them," Wright said. "He didn't kill them; he didn't hit them. He just took the truck, and they were too close to the truck. I hate that he did that. Hopefully, he can turn himself in, hopefully, the lady lives."
The husband says his wife is now doing better, but says this impacted their ability to get around the city.
The truck was a red and white 1991 GMC pickup, Tennessee tag BHV3108. Police are still looking for it.
