The elements needed to green light the contest are wave heights, The Eddie requires consistent 40 foot surf, minimum; and the swell needs to arrive by 8 a.m. Conditions and direction of the swell are also factors.
"I like the fact that the key factors, the timing, the direction, the wind, everything is lined up. In fact, the latest output has increased our percentages," McNamara said on Wake Up 2Day. "But in the end, the morning of, the bay will call the day."
Conditions prime for the ‘Eddie’ to go this Sunday
McNamara also stressed that the bay can only hold so many people. He asked that people come early, listen to the lifeguards and announcers, stay away from the high-water mark and don't leave any trash in the bay.
"We're running this event in the name of one of the biggest legends in the sport of surfing, who was a lifeguard here at Waimea Bay," Liam McNamara, the event director explained of the event. "The legacy, the history, the prestige, it's just all there."
