GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — Tenants of New Garden Place Apartments are angry. Some residents have been left without heat for months and they feel like they have tried everything, yet still no results. So, in the spirit of Christmas, they’re taking a light-hearted approach, performing a skit they call  "Stop the Grinch." “There’s no heat, I have to open my oven to get heat,” said resident of the New Garden Apartment complex, Brigette Babington. “I started getting a strong sewer smell in my apartment,” said resident of the New Garden Apartment complex, Sheronca. “I have to take an extension cord from my living room and drag it in the kitchen to make a cup of coffee,” said Babington. Housing projects going up in 2025 in Greensboro to accommodate growth, development Tenants at New Garden Place Apartments are fed up. “I got in touch with Valerie, she is an inspector. She came and inspected, sent fines, we went to city hall. They take him to court, he just adjourned. He won’t show up for court. He gets fined. And how does that protect us? So we still are in the same spot,” said Babington. There’s a constant cycle. They try to get the city involved with no results. “Their hands are tied,” said Babington. Then tenants leave out of frustration, then new tenants move in. “You don’t have maintenance guys to do the maintenance for me and I’m a tenant paying rent every month but as soon as soon as you move other people in I see maintenance guys going in doing the work,” said resident of the New Garden Apartment complex, Linda Bethea. Bethea was a resident for years. She just moved out in November, only to find out that once she left maintenance came in to fix the heat. “Well, that’s all I needed,” said Bethea. The group of 10 tenants feels they have exhausted all options so now, in the holiday spirit, they’re doing their own spin on “How the Grinch Stole Christmas.” FOX8 reached out to the property manager. She said they have new management and if any of the tenants have any issues, they need to make a maintenance request. She said then, the maintenance team would fix it in a timely manner. As for the renters, they will gather on Saturday, December 21, at 10 a.m. to protest outside The New Garden Place Apartments in Greensboro. They say if their demands are not met they will be taking these issues to city council on January 7.
