Local chapters of the Salvation Army making final push to reach fundraising goal

GREEN BAY, Wis (WFRV) – With Christmas just days away, both the Green Bay and Fox Cities chapters of the Salvation Army are making a final push to meet their fundraising goals for the season.
Despite the bell ringers standing out at kettles throughout the region, both chapters are still behind in their targets as the holiday draws near.

Nicole Hanley, the Marketing Specialist for the Salvation Army of Greater Green Bay, explained the importance of this fundraising season.
“So the Christmas campaign is our biggest fundraiser of the year, and our goal this year is to raise $1.32 million," Hanley said. "We are well on our way but we are approximately tracking $30,000 behind this same time last year.”
The Salvation Army's Green Bay chapter has been relying on community support and new initiatives to close the gap.
“Bucket Blitz today is an inaugural event that we are testing out for the first time outside of the East Town Mall here in Green Bay. We will have bell ringers that will be out from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., accepting donations curbside so people can just roll down their windows and make a donation,” said Hanley.
Meanwhile, the Salvation Army in the Fox Cities is facing a similar struggle. Kristal Knudtson, Executive Director of the Fox Cities Salvation Army, highlighted their own challenges.
“So, our overall Christmas goal here in the Fox Cities for the red kettles is $260,000. Currently, we are about $60,000 away from that, so you can do the math... three days left of ringing the bells and $60,000 left. We need to bring in about $20,000 each day." Knudtson mentioned.
With less than a week remaining, the Fox Cities chapter is focusing on high-impact events like today’s Red Kettle Match Day. "We do have a match day today with Capital Credit Union, so hopefully that will help double donations to help us reach our goal," said Knudtson.

Between both the Fox Cities and Green Bay Salvation Army chapters, they are about $1 million short of their target goal.
With just days left to meet their goals, every donation matters. Whether it’s a few coins dropped in a kettle or a generous check in the mail, your contribution can help ensure that the Salvation Army continues its critical work in the community.
