Wisconsin State Patrol mourns loss of two retired K9s who helped with public events
Dec 20, 2024
(WFRV) - The Wisconsin State Patrol is mourning the loss of two beloved and retired members of the K-9 Unit.
12-year-old K9 Cirus and 13-year-old K9 Nora passed away on Dec. 12 and Dec. 13, respectively.
Frozen road laws set to begin in northern Wisconsin on Saturday, what that means:
K9 Cirus spent eight years with the State Patrol, from 2015 until 2023, as he aided his handler in narcotics detection sweeps in vehicles, facilities and search warrants.
His efforts resulted in significant amounts of drug seizures up until his retirement on April 11, 2023. Cirus spent the rest of his time in retirement with his handler's family.
K9 Nora began her career in 2013 as the first State Patrol K9 trained in-house by Sergeant Todd Brehm. In her nine years with the State Patrol, she was assigned to both the northcentral and northeast regions until retiring on October 18, 2022.

Her career also involved narcotic detecting sweeps, and her efforts resulted in numerous seizures of drugs and other contraband. She was adopted by her handler's family after retiring.
The Wisconsin State Patrol says that both Cirus and Nora were crucial in public demonstrations, recruiting efforts and representing the force at many events.
