GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) - Three local law enforcement departments gathered as one as they look to fight hunger within the communities of Brown County. The Brown County Sheriff's Department, Green Bay Police Department and Ashwaubenon Public Safety teamed up for their 'Fill the Cruiser' event. Salvation Army of Greater Green Bay continues Christmas Campaign with Community Lunch The event allowed shoppers to purchase a prepackaged bag which was provided by three local grocery stores, and then hand them to officers outside who will fill their squad cars with the bags. Each donation will go directly to the New Community Shelter's Community Meal Program, which serves meals every day of the year including the holidays. Melanie Lovato, an investigator with Ashwaubenon Public Safety said the department had already received a plentiful amount of donations, filling three full cars within a few hours. Lovato joked that it's a bit of a competition with their fellow departments to try and donate the most. "It's awesome to see people take ownership of the community and recognize that there are others in need and come out to support this amazing program," Lovato said. "We compete a little bit between the different departments to see who can bring the most back into the shelter." Salvation Army of Greater Green Bay holds inaugural event to rally support for Red Kettle Campaign The grocery stores hosting are: Pick'n Save - Lime Kiln Road (Brown County Sheriff's Department) Pick'n Save - East Main (Green Bay Police Department) Metro Market - Ridge Road (Ashwaubenon Public Safety) Departments started their collections at 8 a.m. and will be collecting until 4 p.m.
