Weldon residents displaced after fire destroys home

WELDON, Calif. (KGET) -- The Kern County Fire Department battled a single-story structure fire Thursday afternoon despite the danger of arcing power lines and metal fencing around the home.
On Dec. 19, Kern County firefighters were dispatched to the 6000 block of Bonikell Street in Weldon at about 11:30 a.m. for a house on fire, with reports of a possible trapped elderly woman inside. Engine 71 reported seeing a large column of smoke and flames from a distance.

E71 deployed multiple hose lines and used the "Deck Gun", which is capable of powering hundreds of gallons of water directly into the home. Firefighters conducted a search of the home and found no victims.
After the fire was knocked down, firefighters performed further overhaul operations to fully extinguish the fire. No injuries were reported by firefighters or civilians.

The three residents of the home were displaced and are currently being assisted by the Red Cross.
The cause of the fire is undetermined and is under investigation.
