BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- Bakersfield Fire Chief John Frando, who began his career with the department 30 years ago, has announced his retirement. His final day will be Dec. 27. "It has been the honor of a lifetime to serve this community and work alongside such dedicated professionals," Frando said in a release sent Friday by the Bakersfield Fire Department. "I am proud of what we have accomplished together and have the utmost confidence in the continued success of the department." The release says Frando's tenure "has been marked by his steadfast leadership, extensive experience, and deep knowledge of fire service operations. Under his guidance, the Bakersfield Fire Department has continued to uphold its mission of protecting life, property and the environment with professionalism, respect, integrity, dedication, and excellence." Frando joined the department in March 1995. He rose through the ranks and was appointed fire chief in December 2021. Plans for the selection of his successor will be announced in the coming weeks.
