Therese Manggaard hosted the Brownsdale Study Club on December 17. Five club members and two guests were treated to a homegrown lunch featuring fruits and vegetables from Therese’s yard. President Shelley Vogel called the meeting to order with the reading of the Collect. The seasonal roll call was “Special interest to me in the life of Jesus.” The secretary’s and treasurer’s reports were approved. Under old business, Barb Swanson reported that she sent five Christmas cards to past members and thirty three cards to residents of The Legacy. Under new business, Shelley submitted a bill of $11 for printing our club booklets. Thanks to Shelley for getting them done. Next year, we will meet all twelve months, but will not have a business meeting January-March. January’s meeting will be held at Mary Kidwiler Moritz’s home. Rena Perrigo is in charge of the outside reading and Barb has the main topic. Mary Kidwiler Moritz announced that the Study Club was acknowledged at the City Council meeting for their donation to the Pickleball Court. Therese made a motion to adjourn, seconded by Barb. For the Outside reading, Therese read a tender, heart-warming true story, “If You’re Missing Baby Jesus, Call 7162” by Jean Gietzen. Therese introduced her brother Myron Spindler, who presented the main topic, “Wood Carving.” Myron began carving Santas in 1988 when collecting Santas was extremely popular. He fashioned his own carving tools and has made over 1,400 carvings. Besides Santas, Myron carves Gnomes, caricatures, wildlife and special orders. His work is displayed every year at the Steele County Fair. Myron demonstrated the carving process and gifted each  member a Gnome ornament.
