Cleveland Teamsters protest in support for Euclid Amazon workers
Dec 20, 2024
Amazon drivers could be heard honking as they passed by local Teamsters and Amazon workers who were protesting outside of Euclid’s Amazon Fulfilment Center on Dec. 19, joining in what the union is calling the “largest strike against Amazon in American History.”
According to an Associated Press report, Teamsters representing 10,000 Amazon workers have authorized a strike in seven of their fulfillment centers across the country after Amazon ignored a contract negotiation deadline that the union had set for Dec. 15.
“If your package is delayed during the holidays, you can blame Amazon’s insatiable greed. We gave Amazon a clear deadline to come to the table and do right by our members. They ignored it,” said Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien in a press release. “These greedy executives had every chance to show decency and respect for the people who make their obscene profits possible. Instead, they’ve pushed workers to the limit and now they’re paying the price. This strike is on them.”

Mark Bresky, local recording secretary at Teamsters Local 407 in Cleveland, was outside of Euclid’s Amazon Fulfillment Center on St. Clair Avenue and Babbitt Road , attempting to start a small propane heater to warm the cold hands of about half a dozen people.

He said they were outside of the fulfillment center to show support for the national movement and that he hoped that timing the strike near the holiday shopping season would be an effective strategy.
“We are just here to let everybody know that we are not standing for this as teamsters,” he said. “It’s to put pressure on Amazon, this is their busy time, so we are letting them know.
“Recognize us. Negotiate a contract,” Bresky said. “they are refusing to recognize the Teamsters. And they are refusing to negotiate.”
