SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- A man believed to be a security guard for a Christian Dior store was shot and killed by police in San Francisco's Union Square early Friday morning, according to authorities. The shooting occurred hours after two pedestrians and a bicyclist were struck in a related hit-and-run.
The San Francisco Police Department responded at 6:30 p.m. Thursday to the area of Kearny and Post streets on reports of multiple hit-and-runs by a single vehicle. Arriving officers learned that a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed mounted the sidewalk and struck an 18-year-old woman and a 17-year-old girl.
The suspect vehicle continued to drive in pursuit of a man on an e-bike, police said. The vehicle struck the bicyclist, described to be a Hispanic man in his twenties, near Sutter and Kearny streets. The victim fled on foot after the collision and the suspect unsuccessfully attempted to take the bike in his vehicle, SFPD said. The suspect collected some of the victim's belongings and left the area.
Through the investigation and looking through video evidence, police said they believed the suspect worked as a security guard at the Christian Dior store at 185 Post Street.
At 1:38 a.m. Friday, several SFPD officers approached the suspect, who was standing outside of the Dior store. During the encounter, police shot the man, who authorities said was armed. It is currently unknown what led up to the officers feeling threatened and the shooting.

Police had initially reported that the suspect was shot inside the vehicle involved in the pedestrian hit-and-runs.
Officers provided aid before paramedics transported the man to a hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. No officers were reported to be injured during the confrontation.
The two pedestrians were transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. SFPD said the bicyclist has not been located but they wish to talk to him.
The investigation into the police shooting remains active. Officials are advising the public to avoid the area of Grant Avenue and Post Street on Friday morning as police remain at the scene.
