A look at holiday weekend travel inside Bradley International Airport
Dec 20, 2024
WINDSOR LOCKS, Conn. (WWLP) - AAA expects nearly 120 people to travel 50 miles or more away from home over this holiday period.
As another record-breaking holiday travel period is upon us, people are preparing to take public transportation, drive, or fly to their holiday destinations. From December 19 to January 2, TSA expects to screen nearly 40 million people, an increase from last year's 37 million. December 20th may end up being one of the busiest airport days in that period.
Shipping deadlines to mail Christmas packages
Friday morning, security lines at Bradley International Airport were backed well beyond the designated areas with people trying to make it on their holiday flights.
"It's a long line, and we're looking to go on vacation, but you know, we'll get there eventually," said Aaron Menkin as he waited to get through.
When preparing for holiday flights, TSA says:
arrive two hours before domestic flights and three hours before international flights
have your boarding pass and ID ready at the gate
follow TSA instructions
know which items are permitted in carry-on bags
if you're packing presents, do not wrap them
As for road travel, 107 million people are expected to travel by car, and that's 2.5 million more than last year.
AAA says the worst traffic delays will be the weekends before Christmas Day and New Year's Day, while the best time to travel will be the holidays themselves, and always in the morning, before 11 a.m. The worst traffic is expected late afternoons into evenings.
No matter how you're traveling this coming week, pack your patience, and be aware of travelers around you. Remember, everyone is trying to get to their holiday celebrations safely.
