Man sentenced to life in prison for West Brookfield murders

WEST BROOKFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Matthew Locke, who murdered his cousin's wife and their three children in West Brookfield in 2018, was sentenced to life without parole in court on Thursday.
NBC Boston reported that Locke was initially arrested based on allegedly misleading the investigators but has since been charged with murder, arson, and armed burglary. He was sentenced to four consecutive periods of life without parole for the deaths of 38-year-old Sara Bermudez, 8-year-old Madison Bermudez, 6-year-old James Bermudez, and 2-year-old Michael Bermudez.
Springfield police seize illegal firearm after shots fired call
The bodies were found on March 1, 2018, on Old Warren Road in West Brookfield with multiple stab wounds. The house had also been set on fire. Court documents said that DNA on one of the child victims led the detectives to Locke as a suspect.

Locke was convicted after a monthlong trial in a Worcester court. Moses Bermudez, Locke's cousin and the husband and father of the deceased, was present at the sentencing.
