PETERSBURG, Va. (WRIC) -- Students at Cool Springs Elementary School received donated coats to help keep them warm through the winter with help from Keep Petersburg Warm, a local, community-based initiative. The organization -- created by Tameka Blount-Brown and Lahoma Bland Owens -- distributed donated coats to children at the elementary school on Thursday, Dec. 19. Organizers said the majority of the donations come from Petersburg High School alumni. Keep Petersburg Warm said it has given out over 1,900 coats and other winter gear over the last seven years. Friday, Dec. 20 is the last day of its winter clothing drive, with donations able to be dropped off at Karen's House of Beauty and at the Petersburg Department of Social Services building in Petersburg.
