ATTLEBORO, Mass. (WLNE) — Over one million lights illuminate the iconic La Salette Shrine in Attleboro.
It is more than just a light show, however, it’s a time-honored tradition that has brought joy and unity to the community since 1953.
“The Christmas Festival of Lights at La Salette brings the spirit of the season to families. They come back year after year, and it’s become a beautiful intergenerational event,” said Father Flavio Gillio.
The planning for this festival starts months in advance, with organizers working diligently to create a theme that shines through every display.
“By February, we’ll have a theme in place, and then the work begins, setting up lights and creating the displays,” said Father Ted Brown.
“By August, things really start looking a lot like Christmas here,” he said.
In addition to the lights, visitors can enjoy treats and unique installations that tell stories of Christmas.
One display near the rosary pond highlights the story of Saint Nicholas, the inspiration for today’s Santa Claus, with vibrant illustrations and captivating descriptions from local artists.
“There are so many legends and stories around Christmas. With visual displays and words, it’s another way to educate people about how Christ is our light,” said Brown.
The festival runs Monday through Sunday, 5 p.m. through 9 p.m. until Jan. 1.
Whether you attend for the lights, the music, or the message of peace, the La Salette Christmas Festival of Lights offers something for everyone this holiday season.
Best of all, it’s free to attend, making it a can’t-miss experience.
