Paul McCartney came together with Ringo Starr Thursday when they surprised a London crowd with a Beatles reunion.
McCartney, 82, brought out his former bandmate, 84, as part of the former Wings frontman’s international “Got Back” tour, TMZ reports. Footage captured by an audience member is also circulating online.
After telling the crowd at London’s O2 Arena he’d had a “great night,” Starr threw up his signature peace signs, before McCartney asked, “Should we rock?”
McCartney told the crowd to “give it up, give it up” for the beloved percussionist, as the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers launched into “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” and “Helter Skelter.”
As McCartney brought “the one and only” Starr back up to the mic, the latter said he “had a great night and I love you all.” Starr turned to McCartney to say, “Especially this man.”
“Ringo, I want to say, on behalf of us all, we love you all,” said the “Hey Jude” scribe. “Goodbye, Ringo. I will see you soon. Ringo Starr!” The audience erupted into ecstatic applause again.
The rockers’ reunion comes amid news that the lives of the Fab Four will be headed to the big screen.
Back in February, news broke that Oscar-winning “American Beauty” director Sam Mendes will make four films about the Beatles, one each from the perspectives of McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison and Starr.
Though musical biopics are a dime a dozen, Mendes getting the full life and music rights is a big win, as it’s a first for a scripted film about the Fab Four.
Starr appeared to confirm last month that he’ll be played by Barry Keoghan. Sources meanwhile told Rolling Stone that castings have yet to be confirmed.
