Bajah's Cat Café in Tiverton partially reopens
Dec 20, 2024
TIVERTON R.I. (WPRI) — A business in Tiverton partially reopened its doors Friday morning one week after all the cats were removed due to licensing issues.
The Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals along with Tiverton police and animal control inspected Bajah’s Cat Café at the request of local officials.
The reopening will focus on coffee, tea, pastries, and breakfast sandwiches as the cats are still not at the business as of now.
Owner Amanda Souza-Viera surrendered 18 cats, keeping two she owned and returning two others to Forever Paws in Fall River.
Some of the cats were found to have mild upper respiratory infections, but the RISPCA reported that all appeared well cared for with up-to-date veterinary records.
Souza-Viera admitted she knew she didn't have the proper licensing, but said she was in the process of starting a rescue.
"There's nothing I can do anymore, I know they are in a good place that they'll be taken care of but it still hurts," Souza-Viera said. "This mission doesn't stop now it's just going to make me stronger it's going to make me fight harder to get that rescue open."
She added that they hope to stay open until 2 p.m. Friday, and have not received any updates about the cats.
