Arctic air barrels toward North Carolina bringing freezing temps

PIEDMONT TRIAD, N.C. (WGHP) — The leading edge of bitterly cold, Arctic air is barreling toward the Carolinas today.
We will have mostly cloudy skies and seasonable highs near 50° today, but as the cold air arrives around dinnertime, there may be a few showers popping up in the Piedmont. Skies are going to rapidly clear out tonight and stay sunny through the weekend.
Arctic high pressure, planted over New England, is going to pump frigid air down the East Coast. Highs are going to be in the mid-40s Saturday, then drop to the lower-20s Saturday night.
Sunday is the coldest day of the week with highs in the upper-30s! By Monday morning, temperatures will have plunged into the upper teens.
We will start next week with sunshine and highs near 40° on Monday. Clouds will increase Tuesday, as will temperatures, reaching 50° by Tuesday afternoon. Christmas Eve is going to be superb for Santa, as we are expecting partly cloudy skies with temperatures in the upper-30s.
Christmas Day is going to be mostly cloudy with highs near 50°. Hanukkah begins at sunset, and temperatures will be in the mid-40s.
A cold front will drop southward on Thursday, bringing a 30% chance of a few showers early in the day. Highs are going to be in the upper-40s.
