SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- As the end of 2024 nears, The New York Times released its 26 best dishes of the year. Its staff traveled to more than 30 states nationwide and ate at hundreds of restaurants to determine the list. This week, the publication released a list of the best food dishes they've tried -- ranging from sandwiches to pasta to desserts. The list featured two dishes from Bay Area establishments. These were the Bay Area’s most-searched terms in 2024 San Francisco: Grand Opening In the city's Chinatown, Grand Opening's Burnt Honey Pie was honored as one of the best dishes of 2024. "The 'burnt' here refers to the layer of deeply toasted honey custard that shines like amber," The New York Times wrote. Grand Opening is located at 28 Waverly Place. Oakland: Bake Sum Bake Sum, located at 3249 Grand Ave., was featured on the list for its "Croissubi." The Times called the pastry "a hybrid that captures the superlatives of both a maximalist and minimalist croissant." Oakland’s Dokkaebier brewery closes taproom "Our take on the popular Hawaiian street snack - the Spam Musubi. Slices of spam marinated with umami sauce, togarashi, and finished with crispy parmesan cheese," Bake Sum writes to describe its famed Croissubi dish. Two other dishes from California were also featured on NYT's list -- both from Los Angeles. They are the "Mozzarella Sandwich" at Bread Head and "Molotes de Plátano" at Komal.
