NEW ORLEANS, LA. (WSAV) — Georgia Southern committed five turnovers to a 31-26 loss against Sam Houston in the R+L Carriers Bowl. The Eagles came into the matchup with an 8-4 record, it's best under third-year head coach Clay Helton. A ninth win would have tied the highest program total since moving to the Sun Belt Athletic Conference in 2013. Quarterback JC French went 20-for-33 with 212 yards and a touchdown, but four interceptions to go along with it. The Eagles outgained the Bearcats by 126 yards, but five total turnovers for Georgia Southern proved costly in the loss. The Eagles still finished the season with a solid 8-5 record, its best since 2020.
