"Every year we have to get pretty creative and we just have to make sure that our kids aren't forgotten and our parents understand that Santa is still thinking about them," said Ana Bacon, Director of Child Life at UNM Children's Hospital. Thousands of toys, stuffed animals, and clothing items were donated to the hospital for children who are receiving care and their siblings."You know, since my heart grew ten times bigger, I feel the need to give back to the kids and make them have the best childhood they can have," said the Grinch. Santa Claus and the Grinch made their way up and down the hallways bringing smiles, laughter, and gifts to 65 children and their families. What may seem like a small gesture meant the world to families like the Trujillos, who have been at the hospital for more than five weeks. "It feels extra special," said Michelle Trujillo. The goal is to bring the holidays to the hospital so no one is left out. "So he had a bone marrow biopsy done today and as he was waking up we were asked if Santa would like to see him," said Cora Bazzy, Mother of Beaux Bazzy. For the last 2 and 1/2 years, 3-year-old Beaux has been in and out of the hospital for months at a time. Beaux's parents Cora and Tylure, said that those few minutes with Santa are invaluable. "It's really draining being constantly in the hospital. So as much as we can get him happy and kind of keep his lifted spirits, I think it's really important to us and today just really helped having Santa around," continued Bazzy. The spirit of the season even led Joseph Morales or the Grinch, who has been in the hospital with his 3-year-old son Harlin for the last 7 months to volunteer his time and energy. "He is in remission now. Thank the Lord! so now we are trying to find little ways to make his time and other kids' time here more enjoyable. Maybe pass the time a little quicker," exclaimed Morales.
