‘Going to find my daughter somehow’: Mother to spend second Christmas without missing daughter
Dec 19, 2024
PETERSBURG, Va. (WRIC) — A Chesterfield County mother is imploring the public for help in finding her missing daughter, who has been missing out of Petersburg for over a year.
Brenda Blackwell is preparing to spend a second Christmas without her only daughter, Sherrell Renee Brown.
“This is our second Thanksgiving, [second] Christmas that she's not here," Blackwell said. "I worry mostly about the kids.”
It's been a year and three months since Blackwell last saw her daughter and it's been just as long since she's had any new information on her disappearance.

Brown went missing in Sept. 2023. After all this time, she knows that somebody knows something about her daughter vanishing.
“I'm lost -- and I'm using [the word] 'lost' because I don't feel like I'm getting any support," Blackwell said. "I can't believe that she just walked away, and somebody needs to help us find her."
Brown, a wife and mother of two, was last seen at 11:30 p.m. on Sept. 1, 2023. She was at her home on Hanover Street in Petersburg when she unexplainably left on foot. She hasn't been seen since.

The mother is pleading once more with the community to help find her missing daughter, who turned 53 this year.
“I'm 70 years old, but I will be out there till the day I die," Blackwell said. "I'm going to find my daughter somehow.”

According to Blackwell, her daughter experienced several medical emergencies in the past, like several seizures and even a brain aneurysm. It is for those reasons that she may need medical attention -- attention she has gone over a year without.
“Sherrell was a people person," Blackwell said. "She would not have done this to you. She would have done anything to help you. So, help us.”
Brown was last seen wearing blue shorts, a light blue shirt, light-colored shoes and glasses. 8News contacted the Petersburg Police Department, who were unavailable for an update at the time of reporting.
The reward for information about Brown's disappearance that leads to her return home is $5,000.
