Mom and daughter escape car fire in the French Quarter

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — A woman and her daughter narrowly escaped a car fire in the French Quarter on Thursday afternoon.
The woman says they were driving on Bourbon Street when she noticed smoke coming out of the side-view mirrors.

She pulled over near the Royal Sonesta Hotel, and the two quickly got out of the car. Seconds later, it was engulfed in flames.

"It was big. When it started to catch that lift, as soon as it started catching on fire, it spread real fast. It spread fast, and we was around there so I couldn't see it, though I heard it. It kept going, 'Boom! Boom! Boom!'" said Tiffany Jarrell.
The fire also damaged an awning at the Royal Sonesta Hotel.
