(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Mayor Yemi Mobolade provided his final press briefing of 2024, commending the accomplishments of the past year and addressing plans for the future, in addition to commenting on upcoming political changes and addressing an investigation that involves his campaign. In his briefing, Mobolade said Colorado Springs has achieved successes in the five pillars of his action plan, which include public safety, infrastructure, housing, the economy, and community activation. The first pillar, public safety, saw the addition of new officers to achieve this goal. "Together, we have advanced public safety in meaningful ways, including hiring 129 new police officers this year, moving us closer to authorized strength," said Mayor Mobolade. "We also completed the Needs Assessment for the Police Training Academy facility, while we are continuing the good and difficult work of identifying different avenues for funding this much-needed facility in our city." The mayor also addressed achievements in infrastructure, with approval by voters to renew the 2C Road Improvement initiative. His goals for the future include creating sustainable solutions to problems before they happen, using data collected throughout 2024. Mobolade also addressed the incoming administration's immigration plans, including mass deportations that will reportedly begin with Aurora. The mayor did not want to speculate on what President Trump will do before he is sworn in, calling much of the talk "tabloid speculation." "I have trust in our form of democracy. And justice will be... the right decisions will come to bear, I truly believe that," said Mobolade. "But ultimately, I want to ensure that we have a good relationship with the new administration, like we do with the current administration."
